How does the ear work?
Your hearing is one of the most important senses. Without it, you may become shut off from the rest of the world and your quality of life can suffer. Many people report that they feel embarrassed and left out of conversations because they miss what is said. Hearing loss is more common than most people realize. In fact, statistics show that one in 10 people experience some degree of hearing loss. However, less than 25% of these people take advantage of the benefits hearing aids have to offer.
What is hearing loss?
Hearing loss occurs when the tiny hair cells inside the ear become damaged. This can happen for a variety of reasons, including constant exposure to loud noises, side effects of illness or medication, or the natural aging process. Unfortunately, once these hair cells are damaged, they cannot be repaired. Hearing aids help to restore hearing and can help reconnect individuals to the world of sound around them.
